WSWS : News & Analysis : Asia : Indonesia & East Timor

Letter from a reader

Dear WSWS

I quote your response to a WSWS reader:

“Under pressure from Portugal, Australia and others, the UN proceeded with the referendum, in the full knowledge that the Indonesian military would unleash a wave of brutality against the East Timorese people.”

I am extremely disappointed with these outrageous claims, that the United Nations knew what was going to happen, and, most importantly—if they knew it, they still let it happen.

I find it tragic that you alienate such a large group of readers as myself from your Fourth International, or, for that matter, the web site wsws.org itself. How can you possibly believe that you will ever be taken seriously outside your own group and reach out to a larger audience—which I would presume is you goal—when putting forth such claims?

Yours,

DM
