New South Wales state election

Socialist Equality Party (Australia) public meetings

The Socialist Equality Party invites World Socialist Web Site readers and supporters to attend public meetings to be addressed by its candidates in the forthcoming March 24 New South Wales state election.

In contrast to the stage-managed and mind-numbing campaigns of the official parliamentary parties, the SEP meetings will discuss the key political issues confronting workers and youth—the catastrophic deepening US-led war in Iraq, preparations for an attack on Iran, and the escalating assault on jobs, living standards and democratic rights.

The SEP’s campaign is part of a global campaign being waged by the International Committee of the Fourth International and the WSWS to revive the antiwar movement on the basis of a socialist and international program against militarism and war. We call for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all foreign troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and an end to Australian military interventions in the South Pacific. We stand for the defence and extension of democratic rights, opposition to all forms of racism and nationalism, and an end to social inequality.

The SEP campaign is led by national secretary and World Socialist Web Site International Editorial Board member Nick Beams, who, along with Terry Cook, will head the party’s slate for the NSW Legislative Council. Our candidates in the Legislative Assembly are James Cogan in the southeastern Sydney seat of Heffron, Patrick O’Connor in the inner-west seat of Marrickville and Noel Holt in Newcastle.

The meetings are free of charge. We call on all WSWS readers and SEP supporters to take advantage of this opportunity to meet our candidates and discuss our policies.
