WSWS : News & Analysis : North America ISSE meeting planned Wednesday at University of California, Los Angeles28 May 2007Use this version to print | Send this link by email | Email the author The International Students for Social Equality will be holding a public meeting this Wednesday, May 30 at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Joe Kay, ISSE member and writer for the World Socialist Web Site, will deliver a report on The war in Iraq and a political strategy to end it. As the US war and occupation of Iraq enters its fifth year, US imperialism has created a human catastrophe. Hundreds of thousands have been killed, and the infrastructure of Iraqi society has been systematically destroyed. This barbaric policy finds its counterpart domestically in the form of increased inequalities, social polarization, and attacks on democratic rights. The debate within the establishment has exposed the basic truth of American politics: despite massive popular opposition to the war, both the Democrats and Republicans support US domination of Iraq and the Middle East. As Congress prepares to pass a bill to fund the continued occupation of Iraq, students and workers in the US and internationally are confronted with the necessity of building a political alternative. The meeting at UCLA will review the lessons of the past five years and discuss the perspectives of the International Students for Social Equality.
