February 13 meeting in Los Angeles

A socialist perspective for film and television writers

With the film and television writers' strike drawing to an end, writers and their supporters, film students and others need to evaluate the situation in a sober and critical manner.

What are the lessons of the writers' struggle? What is the future of film and television, and cultural life more generally, in the US? Will these powerful media remain subordinated to the drive for corporate profits or will they reflect life and reality in an honest manner?

At our meeting Wednesday, David Walsh, arts editor of the World Socialist Web Site, will discuss the present strike in its historical and social dimensions.
