Libya and the myth of humanitarian interventionism: A reply to the pro-war “left”

The Socialist Equality Party and International Students for Social Equality are hosting a public meeting Thursday, April 7 12:00pm-1:30pm, in Ann Arbor, Michigan on “Libya and the Myth of Humanitarian Interventionism: A Reply to the Pro-War ‘Left’.”

The United States and NATO have launched a war in Libya, following on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The war has received the support of a number of professors and intellectuals, including University of Michigan history professor Juan Cole, who issued an “open letter to the left,” supporting the war on humanitarian grounds.

David North, Chairman of the World Socialist Web Site International Editorial Board, will respond to the arguments of the “human rights” advocates of the US-NATO bombing, placing the present war in the context of the history of Libya, the uprisings in Egypt and other countries, and the ongoing scramble for control of Africa and the Middle East.
