Pontiac, Michigan: The destruction of an American city

Pontiac, Michigan, the former General Motors manufacturing center, has been devastated by decades of plant closings and has lost 10,000 GM jobs in the last decade alone.

During the Obama administration’s auto restructuring, General Motors announced the closure of the city’s main assembly plant, which once employed 6,000 people. Now that plant is being leveled, together with hundreds of acres of GM factories throughout the city.

In this video, workers and residents speak about the mass joblessness and economic devastation left in the wake of the plant shutdowns.
