International Students for Social Equality meetings in US

Imperialism in the 21st century: Iraq, Iran, and the threat of world war

The International Students for Social Equality in the US is launching a series of public meetings at college campuses across the country. The meetings will elaborate a socialist response to the occupation of Iraq, the growing danger of a US-led war against Iran, and the heightening of inter-imperialist antagonisms.

The war in Iraq drags on, one year after the mid-term elections in the US, in which the American people clearly expressed their desire for it to end. Over one million Iraqis have already been killed as a result of the occupation, millions have been turned into refugees, and over 4,000 US and other coalition soldiers have died—all this because the American ruling elite is determined to control the resource-rich and geostrategically critical region of the Middle East.

The so-called opposition of the Democratic Party has shown itself to be nothing more than a miserable charade. All the leading Democratic presidential candidates have made clear that they will not end the war if they are elected, and the Democratic-controlled Congress continues to provide funding for the bloody occupation.

The ISSE calls on students around the world to take up the fight against war and inequality, and help build an independent socialist movement of the working class. Join the ISSE and help build a club at your high school or university!
