SEP Australia meeting in Perth: The second stage of the global financial crisis

Workers and youth in Greece have engaged in strikes and demonstrations over the past weeks against the attempts of the Greek government to slash public spending by forcing through massive cutbacks to jobs, wages, pensions, health care, education and social services. These struggles anticipate mass resistance by workers internationally, as governments everywhere impose harsh austerity programs to recoup the huge sums they spent bailing out their respective banking systems following the global financial meltdown in September 2008. Far from a “recovery”, the banks and corporations, which received trillions in public funds, are demanding that the international working class pay for the failure of the capitalist market.

The SEP meeting in Perth will discuss the second stage of the global financial crisis and the necessity for workers of all countries to adopt a unified socialist perspective as they enter into struggle to defend their most fundamental class interests.
