Socialist Equality Party national secretary Nick Beams has been invited by University of Western Sydney Schools of Law and Economics and Finance to deliver a lecture on the global financial crisis. The lecture, which is also open to the public, will be held at the university’s Parramatta campus on September 14.

The global economic breakdown, which erupted with the US sub-prime mortgage crisis in August 2007, is widely acknowledged as the most serious financial meltdown since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Beams will examine the protracted development of the crisis and its roots in the fundamental contradictions of the capitalist profit system itself.

Nick Beams is a member of the International Editorial Board of the World Socialist Web Site, and an internationally-recognised expert on Marxist political economy. He has written extensively and delivered public lectures in many countries on the global financial crisis, globalisation and the collapse of the USSR.
