The Socialist Equality Party has organised public meetings to raise the most critical issues facing the working class in the 2013 federal election. Behind the backs of the population, the Labor government has joined the preparations by US imperialism for war against China. Prime Minister Julia Gillard has offered up Australia as a key military partner and physical base for US forces, amid the steady build-up of tensions in the Asia-Pacific region. The three major parliamentary parties—Liberal, National, the Greens—as well as the multitude of protest parties, pseudo-left candidates and so-called independents that are contesting the election all agree. That is why they are maintaining a conspiracy of silence on the catastrophic implications of a war with China and seeking to suppress any struggle by workers and youth against it.
The SEP’s Election 2013 campaign is the only one that represents the independent interests of the working class. Our meetings will clarify the inseparable connection between war, the social counter-revolution being waged by governments around the world against the social gains made by the working class in the decades after World War II, and preparations for new, anti-democratic and authoritarian methods of rule. They will advance the internationalist and socialist perspective required to build the new revolutionary leadership of the working class that will fight to unite workers in Australia with their counterparts throughout the Asia-Pacific region, in Europe, the US and globally in a common struggle against the capitalist system, which is responsible for war.
We urge all workers and young people who want to fight the global descent into mass poverty, unemployment, dictatorship and war to attend the SEP’s meetings and participate in this vital discussion.
