Video: Auto workers defend Detroit Institute of Arts

In Detroit, there is deep opposition to the sale of the artwork from the Detroit Institute of Arts. Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr has threatened to sell the museum’s world-famous masterpieces to pay off the city’s big bondholders.

On October 4, hundreds of workers, students and artists marched to defend the DIA in a demonstration organized by the Socialist Equality Party and the International Youth and Students for Social Equality.

As part of the campaign to oppose the bankruptcy of the city and the looting of pensions and city assets, the WSWS spoke with Detroit Chrysler and Ford workers about the importance of the DIA and culture for the working class.
