Public meeting in Los Angeles

The political implications of the NSA spying revelations

The International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) and the Socialist Equality Party (SEP) announce a public meeting at the California State University of Los Angeles on December 3 to review the significance and political implications of National Security Agency (NSA) whistleblower Edward Snowden’s revelations.

Underlying the crisis that has erupted over the latest NSA revelations is a deep fear within the ruling elite over the political consequences of the continuing exposures of its global spying apparatus.

Top officials in the Obama administration have predictably waved the bloody shirt of 9/11 to justify the programs and denounce those who have exposed them, above all, former NSA contractor-turned whistleblower Edward Snowden. Their real concern is not that terrorists will know what the government is doing, but that what the US government is doing is being exposed before the eyes of the population of the US and the world.

This meeting will discuss the social and political roots of the extraordinary growth of the military-intelligence apparatus and the connection between the attack on democratic rights and the enormous growth of social inequality within the United States.

Admission is free.
