Video: Detroit teachers denounce attacks on public education

Fifteen hundred Detroit public school teachers walked out on Monday, shutting down nearly the entire district. Teachers are outraged over the theft of their wages by Emergency Manager Steven Rhodes and the state legislature.

The walkout follows a series of sickouts earlier in the year, carried out independently of the Detroit Federation of Teachers union, over deplorable sanitary conditions in the school buildings, overcrowded classrooms and other issues.
