Live online discussion with WSWS Arts Editor David Walsh

Toronto International Film Festival 2016: How well does filmmaking reflect present-day life?

Today, September 23, at 7:00 pm Eastern Time, the World Socialist Web Site is hosting an online discussion with Arts Editor David Walsh that will be broadcast live on the WSWS Facebook page, fb.com/wsws.org. Listeners will be able to ask questions and make comments on the video feed.

Walsh will be speaking about the recent Toronto International Film Festival, which he attended along with WSWS writer Joanne Laurier.

Of the nearly 300 feature films screened this year at the festival, one of the largest such events in the world, there were a number of honest artistic efforts. While it is difficult to measure such processes with exactness, there seems to be a deepening of the artists’ engagement with complex social and historical questions.

Walsh will talk about some of these films and discuss the broader social and political environment in the US and internationally.
