Bloody Monday: 74,000 layoffs announced in one day

At least 74,000 layoffs were announced yesterday, the majority from US-based companies. The size and scope of the layoffs indicate that the economic crisis is rapidly deepening.

In Moskau wurde am 19. Januar der Menschenrechtsanwalt Stanislaw Markelow auf offener Straße erschossen. Auch eine junge Reporterin wurde bei dem Anschlag getötet. Markelow hatte gegen die Machenschaften der russischen Behörden in Tschetschenien und in Russland selbst gekämpft.
