calls on all US readers of the World Socialist Web Site
to send generous donations to our election fund to help finance
our legal challenge against efforts by the Ohio election authorities
to keep Bill Van Auken and Jim Lawrence, our presidential and
vice-presidential candidates, off the ballot. The SEP campaign has already had to outlay substantial sums of money to fight the attempt by the American state and the Republican and Democratic parties to keep socialist and third-party candidates off the November ballot. In August, at considerable cost,
the SEP filed a lawsuit in Ohio against the discriminatory filing
deadline in the state for third party candidates for Congress.
On August 27 the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit upheld
a lower court decision denying ballot status to David Lawrence,
the SEPs candidate for Ohios 1st Congressional District. The previous month, the SEP successfully
defeated the spurious challenge made by the Democratic Party
to the 2,009 petitions filed by Tom Mackaman, SEP candidate for
the Illinois state legislature from the 103rd District. We are combating organizations that receive tens of millions of dollars from big business. We rely on the working class to provide us with the resources we need. Alongside carrying out our challenge in Ohio, the SEP is preparing for the widespread distribution of our election statement and other programmatic material, as well as energetic campaigning by our presidential, vice-presidential and congressional candidates. We need your financial support to do so. We call on all WSWS readers to send as much as you can. We need your financial support

Volunteer to campaign in Colorado Illinois: The SEP is currently appealing for support in its opposition to the University of Illinois' anti-democratic efforts to silence SEP state legislative candidate Tom Mackaman's by threatening him with disciplinary action for using his personally funded student email account in connection with his campaign. This is only the most recent effort by a state institution to interfere with the SEP's effort to give workers, students, and intellectuals in Illinois' 103rd District an alternative to the pro-war big-business policies of the Democrats and Republicans. It comes on the heels of the Democratic Party's effort to keep Mackaman off the ballot on the basis of a blatantly bad-faith challenge to our nominating petitions, over which the SEP prevailed. In both instances, the SEP's international campaign in defense of Mackaman and the rights of Illinois voters to hear his message has won widespread support from WSWS readers and SEP supporters throughout the world. Help us continue this effort by joining our campaign. Volunteer to campaign in Illinois Minnesota: On Sept. 13 the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office placed Bill Van Auken and Jim Lawrence on the ballot after having determined that the 2,404 signatures submitted on behalf of the candidates puts them on the ballot for the November 2 election. We are beginning our campaign in this area to give the working class an alternative to the two parties of big business. Socialist Equality Party presidential and vice presidential candidates,
Bill Van Auken and Jim Lawrence, from the November 2 ballot.
The SEP filed petitions bearing more than 7,900 signatures with
the Ohio secretary of state's office on August 17, but election

the most spurious grounds.
