SEP (Sri Lanka) meetings: No to war against Syria!

The Socialist Equality Party (SEP) and International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) in Sri Lanka will hold public meetings in Colombo and Jaffna to oppose the impending US war against Syria. Our meetings are part of the campaign by the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI) to build a global antiwar movement based on the working class.

The Obama administration is preparing to launch an illegal war of aggression, ignoring the widespread opposition in the US and internationally. Like the 2003 invasion on Iraq, the US war drive against Syria is based on lies. The real purpose of Obama’s gangsterism is to consolidate the domination of American imperialism throughout the Middle East.

A US war on Syria threatens not only to set the Middle East aflame but also to draw in other powers such as Russia and China. Over the past four years, the US has been involved in a military build-up throughout Asia against China as part of Obama’s “pivot.” Humanity is once again being confronted with a catastrophe, from which no country, including Sri Lanka, will be spared.

The SEP/IYSSE meetings will discuss the necessity of building an international movement of workers and youth against this drive to war. We call on workers, youth and intellectuals to attend our meetings and participate in this important discussion.
