“Take a stand!” Rally against the Gaza genocide in Washington D.C. on July 24!
186,000 men, women and children.
That is the estimated death toll of the genocide in Gaza by the medical journal the Lancet, taking into account that many tens of thousands have died not just in the endless bombardment, but from famine, disease, lack of basic basic social medical care, other consequences of Israel’s war crimes.
This is massive. And every day there are new atrocities.
The Netanyahu government is the author of these crimes, but nothing could be done without the support of the major capitalist powers, above all, the United States.
On July 24, Netanyahu will be in Washington to give his progress report on the genocide in Gaza to the U.S. Congress. The senators and representatives, Democrats and Republicans, will rise to their feet and applaud.
There is not a single bomb that could be dropped on Gaza—not a single building destroyed or child murdered—without the financial, political and military support of American imperialism and both big business parties.
The Democratic and Republican parties back the genocide because they see it as part of a global war waged in the interest of the capitalist ruling class. This is a war that extends from the Middle East to the conflict in Russia over Ukraine, to the developing conflict with China.
So what is the way forward?
The Socialist Equality Party is co-sponsoring a rally and meeting in Washington D.C. on July 24, coinciding with Netanyahu’s address to Congress.
We insist that it is not a matter of appealing to the war criminals to change their course.
There is a social force that can stop the war and the genocide, and that is the working class. The working class is a powerful force, but it must be liberated from the shackles of the two party system
Come to the demonstration on July 24th. Take a stand!
Lawrence Porter is the assistant national secretary of the Socialist Equality Party (US). Porter delivered this speech at a rally organized by Holocaust survivor Rene Lichtman against the Gaza genocide on July 14.
About the July 24 demonstration
On July 24, the World Socialist Web Site, the Socialist Equality Party, the International Youth and Students for Social Equality, and the International Workers Alliance of Rank-and-File Committees are organizing a demonstration in Washington, D.C. to protest the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who will be speaking to a joint session of Congress.
Netanyahu has been accused of war crimes by the International Criminal Court, and his invitation to Congress is a provocation against millions opposed to the genocide in Gaza, which is fully backed by the US government.
This demonstration and the meeting after will give voice to the mass opposition within this country and throughout the world to the criminal alliance between US imperialism and its agents in the Israeli state. Don’t stand on the sidelines—join this demonstration, and get involved!
