May Day 2021 Online Rally
The May Day rally both reflected and anticipated changes in the world situation produced by the coronavirus pandemic. The ICFI has defined the pandemic as a “trigger event” analogous to World War I, which is accelerating all the underlying contradictions of the world capitalist system. This includes, above all, the growth of the class struggle, of which the ICFI and its May Day rally are the most conscious expression.
In both its form and content, the rally was a global event. There was a significant international response to the call for the rally. More than 2,500 viewed the event from more than 75 different countries on every continent, including Antarctica. The fourteen speakers consisted of leading members of the ICFI from 10 countries, speaking in seven different languages—English, German, French, Tamil, Sinhalese, Turkish and Portuguese.
The Blairites' Anti-Semitism Witch-Hunt and the Failure of Corbynism
On Sunday November 15, 2020, the Socialist Equality Party (UK) held an online public meeting in response to Jeremy Corbyn’s suspension from the Labour party on grounds of anti-Semitism.
SEP (UK) National Secretary Chris Marsden presented a report which explained the deeply reactionary character of the anti-Semitism witch-hunt in the Labour Party, which seeks to equate principled opposition to the Israeli state with hostility towards Jews. He delivered a powerful critique of “Corbynism”, which has facilitated this right-wing campaign.
Free Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning!
On Sunday February 23, 2020, the Socialist Equality Party (UK) held a successful rally Sunday in London to demand the freedom of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and US whistleblower Chelsea Manning. The meeting was attended by more than 130 workers, youth and students who came from all over the UK.
At the event, socialists from the three imperialist countries trying to silence Assange and Manning outlined the fundamental principles and programmatic conceptions required in the fight to secure their freedom—Joseph Kishore, the SEP’s candidate for president of the United States; WSWS journalist Oscar Grenfell from the SEP (Australia); and SEP (UK) National Secretary Chris Marsden.
