Letters on the New York Post witch-hunt of school principal

The following is a selection of letters sent to the World Socialist Web Site on “An exchange with New York Post reporter on witch-hunt of school principal”.

The exchange was between WSWS reporter Bill Van Auken and New York Post reporter Chuck Bennett. Bennett wrote a series of articles attacking Debbie Almonster, the principal of a New York City public school that has classes on Arabic and Arab culture. Almonster was ousted as a result of the campaign, organized by right-wing Zionist groups. (See “New York City: Right-wing Zionist witch-hunt ousts principal of new Arabic school”)

Kudos to you for a beautifully principled and eloquent response to the New York Post, and for being an honorable and well informed American unwilling to be cowed by those wielding such arrogant power. They engage in a relentless and unrestrained campaign of shameless lies and distortion of facts—whether on this Arabic School, Palestine, Israel, or Iraq.

You snipped Bennett’s head off real good. Way to go. Bennett and company—Murdoch sycophants all—are in the bullying business, among other things: lying, yellow journalism, sensationalism, and all those many other things for which you called him to task. If more journalists showed your courage and spoke the truth and took it to these cowards on a regular basis, as you did, America would be in a very different place. Thanks for speaking plainly and putting his likes in his proper place.

Hear, hear! In my heart, this month’s voluntary contribution to the WSWS goes toward the production of this article. I’m overwhelmed by a feeling of adoration. Keep up the great work.
