ISSE: Nick Beams to address University of New South Wales meeting

Students and young people in Sydney are invited to attend this Wednesday’s International Students for Social Equality (ISSE) club meeting and Extraordinary General Meeting at the University of New South Wales. The meeting will hear a report from Socialist Equality Party National Secretary Nick Beams entitled “The socialist alternative to war, social inequality and the assault on democratic rights.

The meeting will discuss the many dangers now confronting workers and young people throughout the world: escalating war in Iraq and Afghanistan; preparations for a military attack on Iran; the prospect of economic chaos amid growing turbulence in the global financial system; the threat of “natural” disasters produced by climate change.

None of these threats can be overcome on the basis of protest politics. The urgent task for young people is to develop an international socialist perspective, which aims to unify the working class, students and youth in every country in a common struggle to overthrow the anarchic capitalist profit system based on the nation state—the root cause of the present situation—and to replace it with a social system that meets human need, not private profit. That is the perspective of the ISSE.
