David North to speak at Michigan meeting

The world economic crisis and the return of history

2 February 2009

Twenty years ago, with the dissolution of the Stalinist regimes in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, political pundits and academics hastened to proclaim “the end of history.” With the Crash of 2008, these illusions have been dealt a stunning blow. A giant question mark has been placed over the very viability of the world capitalist system. History has returned.

While politicians and the media have been forced to acknowledge the depth of the crisis, nowhere is there any real explanation of what has caused this precipitous collapse.
