New pamphlet from Mehring Books

The Detroit Symphony strike and the defense of culture in the US

Mehring Books is pleased to announce the publication of a new pamphlet of a lecture by World Socialist Web Site Arts Editor David Walsh, “The Detroit Symphony Strike & The Defense of Culture in the US.”

The lecture (available on the WSWS here) was delivered in Ann Arbor, Michigan on November 15. It places the strike within the context of the history of culture in the United States, while examining the concept of the “socially engaged artist.”

Dozens of copies of the pamphlet were sold at a recent benefit concert given by the DSO musicians, and the lecture has been warmly received by the musicians themselves.

The pamphlet, 16 pages, includes photographs. To order the pamphlet separately ($2.00, plus shipping and handling), click here.

The lecture is also being offered as part of a new arts and culture bundle that includes: Aleksandr Voronsky’s outstanding book, Art as the Cognition of Life, as well as two additional lectures by David Walsh—“The Aesthetic Component of Socialism” and “Hollywood Honors Elia Kazan: Filmmaker and Informer.” To order the full bundle ($25, plus shipping and handling) click here.
