Mehring Books is pleased to announce that Felix Morrow’s classic work, Revolution and Counterrevolution in Spain, is now available through our online catalog.
The year 2011 marks the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in July 1936 when a revolt by fascist army officers was met with an armed uprising by the Spanish working class. First published in 1938, in the midst of the civil war, Felix Morrow’s account is essential reading for a deeper understanding of the tragic events in Spain.
This work contains a devastating indictment of the Popular Front policies of the Stalinist Communist Party, which played a criminal role in strangling the revolutionary struggles of the Spanish working class. Morrow not only analyses the counterrevolutionary role of Stalinism but takes up the policies of the anarchist CNT and the centrist Workers Party of Marxist Unification (POUM), whose policies played a central role in the defeat of the revolution at the hands of Franco’s fascists.
The reemergence of mass struggles by the European and international working class makes the assimilation of the profound political and historical issues raised by the Spanish Revolution and Civil War of critical importance to the upcoming generation of workers and youth. For that reason Morrow’s work deserves a place in the library of every Marxist.
This volume also contains the essay, “The Civil War in Spain: Towards socialism or fascism?”
