I would like to thank all the contributors to the condolences on the obituary of my husband, Dave Hyland. For him to die on the eve of our 50th wedding anniversary seemed doubly cruel, especially as he had put up such a determined fight over the last ten years to combat the illnesses that eventually claimed his life.

His attendance at the founding conference of the Socialist Equality Party in 2010 renewed his vigour and he pursued his beliefs with a determination to contribute in the only way he felt he could, by writing for the World Socialist Web Site and discussing with comrades.

I have been overwhelmed by the condolences, tributes, flowers and cards and the attendance at the funeral. They have all made me proud of the man he was and his place in the history of the movement.
