Video: SEP candidate Patrick O’Connor explains why car workers need a socialist strategy

Today the World Socialist Web Site is publishing a video address by Socialist Equality Party Senate candidate for Victoria, Patrick O’Connor.

O’Connor explains that a cost-cutting industrial agreement imposed on General Motors Holden workers at Elizabeth in South Australia has set a new benchmark in the corporate offensive against the wages and conditions of the entire working class.

The agreement, which was developed with the active collaboration of the Labor government and the trade unions, is part of a ruthless restructuring of the global auto industry.

O’Connor points out that these attacks can only be defeated if car workers around the world develop a unified struggle against the auto companies. This requires the fight for a socialist and internationalist strategy to abolish capitalism.
