Thousands of Detroit residents attended a sham “water affordability fair” held by the city just days before the scheduled resumption of mass water shutoffs. The event’s organizers claimed to help residents having their water shut off by putting their overdue water bills on a payment plan. But many residents said they did not have the up-front cash necessary to get on the payment plan, which would itself result in higher monthly payments over time. In this video, residents denounce the shutoffs and other attacks on working people being carried out through the bankruptcy of Detroit, and discuss the recent police/military occupation of Ferguson, Missouri.
